December 4, 2010 Katelyn's 4th Birthday!!!!

Happy 4th Birthday Katelyn!! We love you so much and our lives are so blessed with you in it.

Birthday morning. Sleeping with her sister!

On Katelyn's birthday, we attended the parade downtown. Some friends of ours got a suite at the Adolphus and had people over for breakfast beforehand. It was so much fun. Here is the birthday girl standing on a chair next to the railing. My stomach still lurches looking at this picture. I was absolutely freaking out any time my girls went to stand on a chair to look (actually any of the kids). I would push the chairs further back and let them only rest their heads on the rail.

Katelyn absolutely loved Batman! She loves the superheros.

Katelyn also loves Star Wars. She especially loves Darth Vader. Why? I don't know. She just does.

Spiderman - Katelyn was really in her element so to speak after seeing him!

David Archuleta from American Idol was a parade headliner.

Birthday dinner for Katelyn! She wanted pizza and a princess birthday cake. I had gotten up early in the morning and decorated the kitchen with princess birthday items for her to have when she woke up.

Katelyn with her Uncle Marty!

Family dinner celebrating Katelyn's birthday.

Katelyn's favorite color is blue. She wants blue everything. She picked a chocolate chip ice cream cake with chocolate cake. She is still a chocolate girl! She insisted on blue frosting. It was interesting in that she was very specific this year on what she wanted for her birthday cake.

After dinner, I arranged a surprise carriage ride for Katelyn for her birthday. We bundled up and went on the horse carriage ride to see the Christmas lights up. Our friends Chris and Sarah joined us in the birthday celebration fun. It was cold! I took several comforters and blankets and we used them all!

Of course, I have to end this post talking about Katelyn at four years old. Katelyn is so intelligent. Her little mind is thinking all the time. Because of this, we are constantly, still, having to keep her out of things and keeping an eye on her. You will tell her not to touch something and she will look right at us and touch it.

Her memory is amazing. We were going to Red Lobster to eat one night after not being there for several months and when Katelyn found out where we were going she said her food order -- macaroni and cheese, french fries with ketchup, and milk. She amazed me that she put it together and knew what food she orders from this place when we don't go often and it had been awhile.

She was listening to the radio one day and CHH asked the girls who was singing this song. It was a new song to them. Katelyn instantly said "Michael Jackson" and knew him from listening to "Thriller" in the past with her Dad. Again her memory is incredible and we love listening to her.

She definitely has her likes and dislikes that are different from her sister. Katelyn loves ketchup, her sister, mustard. Katelyn hates rice even though she is a quarter Japanese while it is one of Jordan's favorite foods. Katelyn is our carnivore. She would love a good piece of meat any day.

Katelyn is also very particular about what she wears and her hair. Jordan will wear pretty much whatever I pick for her and is pretty easy about her hair. Not Katelyn. If I pick something for her, you can guarantee that is not what she is going to wear. She doesn't want to wear dresses and much prefers t-shirts and jeans or shorts. One of her favorite shirts to wear right now is a dark blue Star Wars shirt.

For bed, she refuses to wear cute pajamas and wears t-shirts (all blue ones) and shorts. Her favorite t-shirt that she wears more than 50% of the time to bed is a turquoise blue soccer t-shirt that I actually purchase for Jordan and Katelyn claimed.

With regard to her hair, she hates to wear it up in a pony tail and most of the time when I pick her up from school she has pulled out the rubber band and is wearing her hair down. She is also into combing it to the side and trying to make bangs. She really wants bangs. She doesn't want to wear bows but headbands. I would say she is my tom-boy but she does like girly things as well. I think she is just basically opinionated.

Also Katelyn argues all the time. Sometimes I help her get ready in the morning and it is always an argument. CHH told me it is this way every morning with her. She argues about when it is time to get ready, what she is going to wear to school that day, what she is going to have for breakfast, etc. She is definitely feeling her way and saying what she wants and doesn't want!

Sidenote about getting Katelyn ready in the mornings: Katelyn hates to go to the bathroom when she gets up because she says the potty seat is cold. She will refuse. CHH being the great Daddy will actually take her in and warm up the seat with his hands by swiping his hands back and forth on it to warm it up. Katelyn will then sit on it! What a great Daddy. No thank you when she asks me to do the same. I know it is our potty but I can't get past it :)

Katelyn is also the most loving child. She constantly crawls into my lap to be held and is always cuddling with me when I am laying down watching something. She is my little buddy now and is always with me no matter where I am at in the house. She will talk my head off telling me the most hysterical things. She is very quick to say I Love You to her family and as always I love when she randomly says it.

I think her favorite things are her sister, a ball, and her cat. Jordan and her will fight some but in the end are the best of friends. She adores her older sister and is very good about doing things with Jordan and for Jordan. Katelyn is a great sharer and will always give her sister part of whatever she has. She is the least selfish member of our family.

Our sweet baby girl is such a joy to our family and she completes are family so much. I absolutely adore her beautiful brown eyes and gorgeous warm brown hair. I love her quick wit and sense of humor. I love her intelligence and I especially love when she loves her sister :)

Happy Birthday Katelyn!!!
