OK, I went to an awesome presentation tonight. One of the Mom's of Jordan's school friend had an extra ticket and called me late yesterday with regard to attending the lecture. Paul Nicklen, the National Geographic photographer and biologist, spoke and told stories about the Antarctic wildlife, sea ice, and climate change.
To say I was enthralled is an understatement. First and most obvious was this gentleman's photos of sealife and how beautiful and incredible they were. I sat in the audience just amazed at what I was seeing.
Mr. Nicklen is charismatic and a great lecturer. He had the audience laughing from the beginning he stepped on stage and listening the whole time. After being reeled in with some of the most amazing photos I have ever seen, Mr. Nicklen captured me with his stories of growing up in Canada, earning his biology degree, and then his desire to show the world what is happening with the sea ice and harm to sealife/wildlife.
Who had ever heard of Narwhals? Not me! This man had the most amazing photos of Narwhals and stories about them. He told stories about Leopard Seals, Polar Bears, Penguins, etc.
Mr. Nicklen's website has a video of one of the stories he told which was amazing. All I know is it was a couple of the best spent hours listening to him and seeing his photos. It made me want to pay attention and better myself and the world for my kids and the sealife!
Side note: I wanted to purchase his book Polar Obsession afterwards and get it autographed. I was with my new friend and the line was horribly long. I was disheartened to not get an autographed book from him but am off to purchase it off the National Geographic website now. Go to his site and see the photos and read his story. Amazing!
