Free Dress Day and United Way

Last Sunday, the girls had a wonderful time eating ice cream at a friend's house.

Tuesday, the pre-k class at Jordan's school got a "Free Dress Day". They could wear whatever they wanted (within reason of course) to school.

Jordan was excited about "Free Dress Day". I wanted to put a red bow in her hair but she insisted on black. She knows what she wants and she states it!

Ok, so this week at work is United Way. As stated before, this year is my busiest year yet at my job. All the qualified plan benefits are changing for our employees and the work flow from this project alone is unbelievable -- mucho stress! Well out of about 150 employees in the world headquarters, I get picked this year to be one of the six team leaders for United Way week. Am I being punished?! :)

One of the things for the week is a chili lunch. They asked each team to contribute four pots of chili. With 24 employees on my team, I couldn't find someone to make the fourth pot so as team leader it fell to me.

Now anyone who knows me knows I can't cook! I went to the Wolf Chili recipe site and downloaded a recipe -- extra ingredients to add to their chili. I took my girls shopping, purchased the goods, and came home to make my chili. My husband, the cook, was not home due to interviewing someone for a job.
I found the crock pot we received as a wedding gift seven years ago and removed the tape holding the lid on the pot (see picture above). I followed the recipe and was really proud of my chili. It actually smelled good!

This morning I load the chili up in my car in the crock pot, placing it on the floorboard, and drove to work. Oh yes, I taped the lid to the pot because I thought that was a good idea for it not to spill.

Boy was I wrong! Have you seen tan mats covered in orange/red chili?! This pot of chili sloshed everywhere. Thinking about it later, I should have put a towel done first :) I get to work and feeling upset I call our maintenance man at work. Good ole Larry to the rescue as always!

Larry is a Harley Davidson man. He is rough tough looking full of tattoos. This man is gruff and will feel your ears with displeasure grumbling about something; however, this man ALWAYS comes through for me and everyone else at work. Goes to the lesson about not judging a book by the cover or not taking the time to get to know someone because they look or act different from you...

Larry arrives at my car, removes the pot of chili and takes it upstairs for me. He then removes my floor mats and when I arrived back at my car tonight to leave -- I have nice cleaned mats in my car less orange stains! What a great guy. Truly he is one of a kind and I love having him as my friend.

Cooking something when I don't cook and practically ruining the look of the inside of my car (plus making sure my husband doesn't come unglued over my sloshed chili inside my car), I think I fulfilled my United Way team leader duties today!!
