Schools Surprise

This is Jordan at her current school. This past Fall, CHH and I decided to apply to three private schools for her for next year. We did not know if this is the route we really wanted to take but others we knew were going through the process and, we did not want to miss out on something for Jordan.

We decided to go through the process and to see what happens. We have a great public school in our area that we would be fine sending her to as well and is one of the reasons we moved to our current area.

Well as stated we picked only three to apply to because the process, interviews, visits, etc. take up a significant chunk of time for us and took us away from work at times. Also we did not want to put Jordan through too much.

To get the process started, you fill out their applications and send in an application fee. After sending in the fee, we went on visits to the schools. At one of the three schools, which I totally fell in love with, they stated at the visit that there were only 4 or 5 spots open for pre-k. After finding that out, CHH wanted to stop the process for that school because Jordan's chances were not looking good there and why spend all of our time needed for the interviews, etc. As stated, I loved the school and said we had already paid the money so lets go ahead with the process.

We finished the process for all three schools in late January. All the private schools mail out their acceptance/rejection letters on the Friday before Spring Break. Being on our cruise last week, we stopped our mail and therefor did not know whether Jordan got into a school or not.

Well, we had our mail delivered this past Monday. CHH got home first and called me at work.

Our Jordan had gotten into all three schools!!

I was so surprised and slightly numb when I heard -- seriously. Not because of my daughter not being smart enough because I know she is but more because of the process and her chances especially at the two of the schools. I really had not thought much about the schools and where we ultimately would like to send her because, frankly, I thought the choice perhaps would be made for us by where she got accepted.

Anyhow CHH and I pretty much knew if she got into this one school that is where she would go. When I got home Monday night, we talked more about it and confirmed our decision. It is not the one school that had only 4 or 5 spots and that I really loved but to our ultimate first pick.

Anyhow I am so proud and happy for our Jordan. She hasn't a clue! She is just happy going to school. CHH went out and bought her the cutest celebration cupcakes. With him being an educator, this is a huge deal in our family and, he is so happy for her. CHH has been talking about Jordan's education practically since she was born (Katelyn's as well). I once had a good laugh because I came to find out from an electrician that CHH even talked to the electrician about it when we were building our house. It is a topic constantly on my husband's mind.

Anyhow as stated, we are relieved it is over and thrilled for our intelligent, sweet, beautiful girl. We'll see what happens in the upcoming years and take it year by year. I was talking to my Dad about it and making the right school decisions for Jordan and my Dad said, "Welcome to parenthood." Yes, I guess a parent re-evaluates all the time to make sure we are doing the best we can for our children. Hopefully the path we have taken for Jordan will make it easier for us to struggle through when it comes time for Katelyn!

We just want our girls to be happy and have great childhoods. They are only little once in their lives.
