Today was the Princess Alexa Foundation volunteer day to organize all the costumes collected for the seriously ill children. The costumes are for the Dress Up Closets for Children’s Medical Center Dallas which will hopefully open in April. The foundation has also started another project called Dress Up Deliveries (Duds) which delivers a costume to a seriously ill child's front door. I believe there were about 40 volunteers today organizing over 2000 costumes by sex, size and style. It was an amazing site.
My sister, Jill, volunteered as well. Once there and once Jill saw everything going on, she immediately said that she would volunteer for a Princess Alexa event any time. She realizes like me what a great organization this is and, they are truly doing this to give back to all those other seriously ill children still fighting horrible diseases. As always, it makes me feel blessed.
Jordan went with us and was happy to meet Alexa's parents. She has seen Alexa's picture on our computer when I go to the foundation website. When we walked in, she saw Alexa's picture and she immediately said "Mommy, there is Alexa." Jordan was really good today and, I was glad to have her with me.
Katelyn stayed home and had wonderful Daddy/Katelyn time. When I returned home from volunteering today, I was telling CHH about the day. He suddenly said that the most horrific thing in life would be the loss of your child. He and I went on to talk about how much we love our girls and, we just couldn't imagine not having them. I then told CHH about how Alexa's parents are going through more horrific circumstances now that their young son is sick with something as well.
Driving home today, I was thinking about Crys and Zack, Alexa's parents. They are wonderful, good people that I have had the pleasure to meet and get to know some. I wish with my whole heart, I had met them for a different reason. I wish I had met them with our daughters' playing in the same park, riding the same merry-go-round at the mall, or in a gymnastics class together. Being around them some, I can see why Alexa lived as long as she did after her diagnosis. These people put their whole heart into everything they do and one can see it with this amazing foundation.
There will be another huge costume drive again in the fall. Keep your eyes out for good buys and please donate. It is a wonderful cause and I can see the good they are doing.
